The Physical Effects of Homelessness
Homelessness and poor physical health go hand in hand. Common health problems include respiratory conditions such as asthma, bronchitis and pneumonia; cardiovascular conditions such as heart problems, blood pressure issues and diabetes; cancer; epilepsy/seizures; wound infections; and renal, hernia and liver damage.
It is not just the physical experience of homelessness that leads to poor physical health. Homeless people lack adequate access to healthcare services. Often those who require treatment do not receive it.
