Lee County 10 Year Plan

In November 2007, Lee County became the 300th jurisdiction in the country to announce its Ten Year Plan to End Homelessness.

In a competitive process, Florida Gulf Coast University was awarded the contract and Dr. Tina Gelpi, Assistant Professor of Occupational Therapy and Community Health, FGCU, together with Debra Lynne, a homelessness expert from New York City (now living in SW Florida) were identified as co-facilitators.

The initiative has been funded by the Five Cities of Lee County (Bonita Springs, Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel/Captiva), The Lee County School Board Foundation, Chico’s, The Unitarian Universalist Church of Fort Myers and Lee County Department of Human Services.  The Lee County Human Services Council will provide oversight for the project.

Time Line:

During the period of December 2007 through February 2009, Lee County will be led through a community participatory research initiative that will involve FGCU students, private citizens, public officials, non-profit organizations, faith based organizations and homeless/at-risk individuals in informing the process and contributing to a strength-based and needs analysis that will result in the development and release of the Ten Year Plan to End Homelessness.

What’s New: 

The Ten Year Plan now has a name and a logo:  L.I.F.E. – Lee’s Investment For Everyone. 

We established the Steering Committee (a representational body of high-ranking public officials and private citizens).  Larry Hart (Assistant Tax Collector Lee County) and Cole Peacock (Director of Corporate and Governmental Relations Chicos, FAS) serve as Project Champions and will co-lead the Steering Committee.  (Click Here to see a list of Steering Committee Members)

The Steering Committee established 10 sub-committees with the task of conducting strength-based analyses on their assigned topic/s and/or population/s, to develop recommendations for the Plan and the related capacities and resources needed.  (Click Here for List of Sub-Committees)  If you would like to serve on a sub-committee, please contact us (see contact information below.)
